25% Reservation in Action: The Real Impact of EWS Admissions in 2026–27


The Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi and the Directorate of Education have started the online application procedure for admissions under the Disadvantaged Group (DG), Children with Special Needs (CWSN) and Economically Weaker Section (EWS) categories for Kindergarten, Class 1 and Nursery in private recognised and unaided schools for the 2026–27 academic session.

Eligibility Needs

Parents applying under the EWS category should have a total annual income of less than 5 L rupees from all sources and must be Delhi residents. The DG category involves students from SCs, STs, and other backward classes, children living with HIV, transgender children and orphans. Authorities will allocate 22% of seats by a computerised lottery method, as per the RTE Act. Private schools will reserve 3% of seats for children with special requirements within the 25% quota.

Age Criteria

  • Between 1.4.2019 & 31.3.2021,The child should be born.
  • Nursery (as of 31.3.2026)
    • Age: 3 to 5 years
    • DOB: 1.4.2021, to 31.3.2023
  • KG (as of 31.3.2026)
    • Age: 4 to 6 years
    • DOB: 1.4.2020, to 31.3.2022
  • Class 1 (as of 31.3.2026)
    • Age: 5 to 7 years

Parents should submit one application per child and employ a single phone number. The authorities will send all admission-based updates to the registered number. Officials have alerted that submitting many applications for the same child will be cancelled, even if the child gets selected in the lottery.
