Chhattisgarh Changes School Timings as Heatwave Grips the State


The state govt. of Chhattisgarh has revised school timings from June 17 to 21 due to the severe heatwave conditions. The School Education Department directed all govt. and private schools to function from 7 to 11 in the morning to protect students from the harsh midday heat. Schools will resume regular hours after June 21 and In spite of weather-related adjustments, the new academic session kicked off on June 16 officially with vibrant celebrations throughout the state.

Schools set the start of the year with Shala Pravesh Utsav, welcoming students with decorations and cheerful sweets ceremonies. In Raipur, teachers encouraged students and distributed sweets to create a festive environment. Educators in Jagdalpur, Bilaspur, Raigarh, Bhilai and Durg joined in with similar enthusiasm to set a joyful situation for the academic year for students. Raipur DEO Vijay Khandelwal confirmed that the admission festival would proceed with events on June 18 and June 20.

The state govt. has made important progress in rationalising schools as well. Previously, 48 pre-secondary and 212 primary schools functioned without a single teacher, and 7,000+ schools functioned with only one. By a huge restructuring effort, the govt. has assured that now, every school in Chhattisgarh has at least one teacher.

In addition, the government merged 166 underutilised schools and reviewed institutions with zero student enrollments to optimise resources. The CM Vishnu Deo Sai welcomed students with a message on his official X handle, reaffirming the government’s commitment to achieving 100% literacy.

In a letter to education officials, he reiterated the goal of eliminating dropouts by Class 12 in alignment with the NEP 2020. He launched the Mukhyamantri Shiksha Gunvatta Abhiyan to enhance learning outcomes in government schools as well.
