Eleven New Schools of Specialised Excellence to Come Up in Delhi

Delhi currently has twenty Schools of Specialised Excellence (SoSEs). From the academic session 2022-23, eleven new SoSEs will become operational in the city along with an AFPS (Armed Forces Preparatory School) in the Jharoda Kalan area.

AFPS will be a residential school. Apart from studies, this school will be a rigorous training ground for students, preparing them to join Indian Armed Forces. Admission registration process has started and the schools have received more than 7,500 applications within a week.

Some of the specialisations offered by the SoSEs include STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), humanities, performing and visual arts, along with the 21st century skills. As per a government statement, February 28, 2022 is the deadline for students to apply for admission in grade IX in their chosen domains.

These schools are DBSE (Delhi Board of School Education) affiliated and follow IB (International Baccalaureate) curriculum. Australian Council for Educational Research, Boston Consulting Group, Indian institute of Technology, National Institute if Fashion Technology, and Tata Institute of Social Sciences, are some of the renowned institutions that the government has partnered with. Criteria for admission to the SoSEs have been changed this year, with the removal of minimum marks requirement.

As stated by the deputy chief minister, Manish Sisodia, SoSEs aim at providing the students with world-class infrastructure and faculty, along with new-age curriculum and learning in special domains. This year, AFPS is included in the list of SoSEs with the objective of preparing students whose goal is serve the country by joining the armed forces as officers.
