Hi-Tech IT Labs for English language instruction in Kerela Schools

With the E3 (Enjoy, Enhance & Enrich), a programme directed at developing English language proficiency in students, the Kerala Infrastructure and Technology for Education (KITE) has operationalized facilities in the hi-tech lab facilities in schools. The programme itself is separate from the Kerala government's Public Education Rejuvenation Mission.

The E3 is a project that utilizes technology for the enrichment of English language instruction in schools. The methodology relies on making the English language lessons enjoyable and engaging to achieve an accelerated pace of language acquisition.

K. Anvar Sadath, CEO, KITE, elaborating upon the features of the project said, “This is achieved using three components - Samagra e-Library, e-Language lab and e-Broadcast. One lakh school teachers will be trained during the summer vacation and the project will be implemented in the new academic year."

The Samagra e-Library is basically a digital library, a repository of standard international books. The books in this e-library are available in audio and video formats. Another component is the e-Language lab, which will have language lab software that will provide opportunities for students to enhance their listening, speaking, reading, writing, pronunciation, grammar and vocabulary. The third component is e-Broadcast which includes multimedia programmes. The broadcast lessons will help learners use English in conversational and academic contexts in an interactive mode.
