In a first, NCTE launces Teacher Training Programme with +2 minimum Qualification

The aspiring teachers have new horizons opening for them with the news that now they would be able to train as teachers after completing higher secondary schooling. The ravages of unemployment in the outback of conventional education spawns modest aspirations which include teaching as a career. Integrated Teacher Education Program (ITEP) is the name of the course that is the recent entrant in the array of teacher training programs available in India. Four- year-long ITEP is going to be offered by National Council of Teacher Education (NCTE). Though the program will position its takers as relatively more eligible educators it does not dispense with the need of a B Ed. qualification which would remain an eligibility condition for applying for the position of teacher in a government institution. Both government and private teacher training institutes would provide ITEP. The ITEP has two gradations the first being pre-primary to primary level and the second being upper primary to secondary level.

The scenario of teacher training in India varies form one state to another as the rulings of the state governments have a bearing on the teacher training institutes in their respective states and UTs. The states whose teacher training institutes will provide ITEP include—

Pre-primary to Primary level—Haryana, Sikkim, Tripura, Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Arunachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Telangana, Meghalaya, Bihar, Delhi, Rajasthan, Andaman& Nicobar Islands

Upper Primary to Secondary Level—Uttarakhand, Tripura, Sikkim, Telangana, Assam, Karnataka, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Tamilnadu , Maharashtra, Bihar, Delhi, Rajasthan

The applications for ITEP will be invited starting from 31st July
