The Karnataka government is considering the establishment of 200 Karnataka Public Schools to improve education quality in rural Kalyana Karnataka. Ajay Singh, chairman of the Kalyana Karnataka Region Development Board (KKRDB), announced that four to five model schools would be set up in each assembly constituency in collaboration with the school education department. Each school will cost Rs 5 crore under CSR funding, with final decisions to be made after the board meeting in March.
During a press briefing, Singh stated that the project would be part of the 2025-26 budget, aiming to provide quality education to rural and urban students. He noted that the state government had allocated Rs 5,000 crore to the board last year, with Rs 4,500 crore already sanctioned for development projects. Discussions with the CM also covered the formation of an engineering division with 229 engineers to utilise these funds efficiently.
KKRDB is currently processing Rs 439 crore worth of tenders to improve healthcare infrastructure, including new buildings, repairs, and ambulance services for primary health centres, community health centres, and urban health sub-centres. Additionally, 48 Maulana Azad and Morarji Desai Residential Schools, 34 BCM hostels, and SC-ST hostels are being developed with an investment of Rs 186 crore. Under the Kalyan Path Yojana, Rs 330 crore has been allocated for rural road development. Furthermore, Rs 8.6 crore has been sanctioned for each of the 16 new taluks to construct mini Vidhana Soudha buildings, with work expected to begin soon.
