In response to last year’s SSLC results dropping to 74%, Karnataka’s Department of School Education is implementing stricter measures to improve outcomes. The decline was attributed to curbing malpractices and stricter exam supervision. This year, pre-board exams will be conducted effectively in January 2025, with schools analysing results to identify focus areas. Each school will appoint a nodal officer to ensure smooth execution, and results must be submitted to local education authorities for review.
Trilok Chandra, Commissioner of School Education and Literacy, stated that result analysis will be carried out at school and district levels to devise action plans fine-tuned for each school. Efforts are focused on non-regular students and those scoring in the C/C+ range. To build confidence, students are being taught concepts, practical-based questions, and are offered extra classes on critical topics. A similar review was conducted during Summative Assessment 1 to identify gaps. Teachers pointed out the importance of earlier interventions, as foundational skills are often lacking in students.
The government has announced that no grace marks will be awarded this year, leaving schools concerned about further result dips. Previously, qualifying marks were reduced as a one-time measure to attract more grace marks. The department is strictly focused on improving results through sturdy preparation, pre-board exams, and focused learning strategies to bridge performance gaps.
