NCERT Adds Patriotic Poem and Chapter on War Hero to Class 6 Curriculum

In a joint initiative by the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Education, NCERT has introduced a poem on the National War Memorial and a chapter on war hero Abdul Hameed in its Class 6 curriculum. The objective is to ignite patriotism and encourage youth involvement in nation-building. The poem titled ‘National War Memorial’ seeks to instill an appreciation for the monument and its symbolic significance, while the chapter ‘Veer Abdul Hameed’ honours the soldier who sacrificed his life during the 1965 India-Pakistan war.

Abdul Hameed was posthumously awarded the Param Veer Chakra, the nation's highest military honour. A senior official explained that this educational update is part of a broader action plan to promote the National War Memorial as an iconic national monument. The 2019-established memorial serves as a tribute to soldiers who died defending the nation and aims to inspire values of sacrifice, national spirit, and a sense of belonging.

NCERT, an autonomous body founded in 1961, works to improve the quality of school education by advising Central and State Governments on education policies. This latest update aligns with its mission of enhancing education while deepening students' understanding of national values.
