The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has put forth a proposed competency-based assessment framework, as suggested by the NEP 2020, for classes 6 to 10.
The new assessment framework aims to do away with the testing based on passive memorization and institute assessment systems that judge the students on the competencies they exhibit in solving real-life problems. The framework is designed to improve the learning outcomes in English, Science, and Maths.
The said framework was launched by the Union Minister of Education, Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank
The implementation of the framework will happen in a phased manner and question papers and modes of assessment will change in its wake. The course of implementation will run for three to four years, in the initial phase certain Kendriya Vidyalayas, Navodaya Vidyalayas, UT Chandigarh and selected private schools will see the pilot implementation, thereafter all 25,000 CBSE schools will implement it.
The assessment framework underlies the mega assessment redesign project that has already been initiated with the training of 40 assessment designers, 180 test item writers, and 360 master trainer mentors in the framework usage for the creation of model question bank and lesson plans.
The outreach of the assessment redesigning is wide covering 25,000 CBSE schools including 2000 KVs and JNVs, 1,32000 teachers, and 2 crore students.
The framework is based on the NEP’s conceptualization of education and has been developed by the British Council along with AlphaPlus as the UK knowledge partner.
