What Documents are Needed to apply for CBSE Affiliation

Obtaining affiliation with the Central Board of Secondary Education is essential for schools looking to provide nationally accredited standards and curriculum. CBSE guidelines control the procedures to ensure accountability, transparency and uniformity.

One of the crucial elements of this procedure is submitting documents that establish a school's infrastructural, operational and compliance with CBSE norms.

This article provides you with the complete list of documents needed for CBSE affiliation, including particular instructions, file format requirements and important notes for schools applying for initial affiliation, switchover or upgradation from another board.

Schools aspiring to obtain CBSE affiliation are advised to review and adhere to these requirements to ensure a successful and smooth application process. Applicants must upload a scanned copy of the documents, bearing in mind the maximum size limit specified in the CBSE website and submit the application online

Key documents required for CBSE affiliation:

    • Registration certificate of the Trust/Society/Section 8 Company. Name and address must match with the information of the application.
    • Affidavit as per CBSE website, confirming the non-proprietary/non-commercial character of the operations entity (society or trust or section 8 company)
    • Land certificate issued by the authority. Original land certificate must be obtained from the District Magistrate, the authorised revenue, or the registering authorities.
    • Legible copies of lease documents and land ownership, like the registered sale deed, lease deed, or gift deed in the name of the school’s society, trust or section 8 company. In case of lease, the minimum lease duration must be 15 years.
    • Safe Drinking Water Certificate from the government agency.
    • Fire and Safety Certificate from the Fire Department.
    • Building Safety Certificate from a government authority or authorised, empanelled engineers.
    • Staff EPF Deduction Certificate and the latest EPF challan.
    • Health and Sanitation Certificate from a government authority.
    • Proof of Reserve Funds

    • Salary Disbursement Certificate confirming payments are made via ECS or cheque, issued by the associated bank.
    • CBSE strictly prohibits affiliated schools from paying fees or royalties to external organisations for the use of names, logos, or mottos. An affidavit confirming the school is not part of any franchise arrangement.
    • Affiliation fee challan and payment receipt
    • Recognition letter issued by the state/UT education department, for the respective grades, confirming the school’s recognition under the state board.
    • No objection certificate (NOC), Schools applying for affiliation from 2026-2027 onwards can apply for affiliation with or without an NOC. In cases where NOC is not submitted, the CBSE board will seek feedback from the concerned state government. However, to avoid procedural delays, we suggest that you submit a NOC from the State/UT. Ensure that the school's name and address in the NOC exactly match those in the application.

All documents must be in Hindi or English. If translated from another language, include an affidavit from the School Management Committee’s appointed Manager affirming the translation’s accuracy, along with their name, designation, and official seal.

Vinod Kakumanu answered

Dear Monika, you are required to have separate laboratories for all the science subjects i.e. Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. the number of these labs should be adequate to conduct a minimum number of practical classes for all the sections that you have in your school. Hope that answers your question.
