CBSE Is Cracking Down on Student Demographics

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has instructed principals of affiliated schools to strictly streamline the correction process for students' demographic details. The board stressed that mark sheets and passing certificates issued after Class 10 and 12 exams must carry accurate student information.

Cracking

To maintain accuracy, CBSE has laid down a clear process for schools:

    • Schools must enter correct demographic details in admission forms, scholar registers, and admission-withdrawal registers.
    • Parents and schools must verify transfer certificates and Class 9 registration data.
    • Schools must use multiple correction windows during registration, submission of the List of Candidates (LOC), and before issuing admit cards to fix any errors.
    • Students, parents, and principals must confirm details at every stage, including after the result declaration.

The board pointed out that, despite providing nearly 20 correction opportunities, it continues to receive a high number of requests. Many of these come with incomplete documents or errors, such as missing records, illegible copies, or non-responsive schools, which delay processing.

To resolve this, CBSE issued strict instructions:

    • Ensure 100% accuracy of demographic details in all school records.
    • Follow CBSE guidelines during registration and LOC submission.
    • Collect parental confirmation for student details.
    • Submit all certified records from previous schools when requesting corrections, as incomplete applications will be rejected.

CBSE also noted that some students directly send requests to the board, issue legal notices, or approach courts, which further slows the process. The board has advised students to route all correction requests strictly through their schools.
