7 Steps to conduct Student Friendly and High-learning Outcome Online Classes

Education has reached a stage where the physical distance is no longer a barrier to teach or learn. With the pandemic minimizing the physical activities of people, many changes have happened over the past few months. All the major educational institutions have changed their methods and strategies to deliver lectures and conduct classroom sessions.

When the classrooms moved online many educational authorities struggled to engage students with delivering lectures on time only to find that it was not a simple task. Even the basic communication between staff and students had become very difficult at times leading to major communication gaps.

If teachers set guidelines to prepare lessons, it would be easy for students to keep a track of all their work in an organized manner.

Let’s take a look at the strategies to set guidelines for online learning:

  • Teachers should be mindful of posting lessons at the same time and place every day. It doesn’t matter if it is on a different learning management or via e-mail, teachers should be consistent and also ask students to bookmark the notes when they land on the platform.

  • They should remind students to check for lessons wherever it is posted. Due to remote learning, students tend to forget certain things like writing down some important notes or assignments, or anything regarding school updates. So, it is the teacher’s responsibility to remind them and reinforce their energy to learn even in this scenario.

  • Be specific about the date and time of the lessons that teachers post on online forums. In case of any students fall behind and want to refer back to lessons, they can easily get them just by entering the date. Organizing with the date keeps the data sequenced and anchored.

  • List the content of the lesson in a chronological order. For instance, attendance on top followed by the notes of a particular topic and then links for submissions would reduce the confusion among students.

  • Provide links to any important content so that students will be able to research on it going more deeply. Sometimes teachers cannot include all the important points in their lessons. So, by providing links students can get to know more about the topic which would help them in their exams.

  • Always start new lessons by providing an overview of the lessons taught in the previous class. In this way, students will not lose track of the topic that is being taken.

The new normal is hard to implicate in our lives in an abnormal condition which is going on for a few months. We all are trying to adapt to the change that has hit our lives by practicing the new lifestyle daily and making it a habit. For educators, it has certainly been a rollercoaster ride to get students online and conduct classes without lagging. Online learning will never give the same atmosphere of a physical classroom, but following these simple steps can make learning more accessible which is a pretty good way to start.
