Deleted Portions of the School Textbooks Restored in Kerala

The National Council for Education Research and Training (NCERT) has removed certain chapters from the textbooks of classes 11 & 12 during the process of curriculum reform. The topics that were removed were associated with the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi as well as the Gujarat riots and the period of emergency.

Now the State government of Kerala has taken a bold move to restore these chapters in these textbooks and has done the distribution of new supplementary books. The inauguration of the same was held on 23rd August at the Cotton Hill School Of Thiruvananthapuram istrict y he Kerala Chief Minister Shri.Pinarayi Vijayan.

This was confirmed by the General Education Minister of Kerala, V.Sivankutty who stated that though these portions of the textbooks were said to have been removed by the NCERT to reduce the academic load, it had some vested interests behind such an act. So the state government decided to give a quick academic response to this curriculum reform and this was the outcome. As classes 11 & 12 follow NCERT textbooks, this exclusion will affect the political awareness of students and so the Kerala government has decided to release additional textbooks, especially in humanitarian subjects.
