Foreign Board Students Allowed Admission in CBSE Affiliated Schools Without Prior Approval of the Board

Affiliated schools have been permitted by the Central Board of Secondary Education to admit students from foreign boards for which the CBSE board’s prior approval will not be required. To facilitate this, a list of equivalency of classes X and XII of foreign boards with similar classes of CBSE has been released by the board. This list is available on CBSE’s website.

Admission can be provided to the students if the names of the boards from where they are migrating are available on this list. In the past, students migrating from foreign boards to CBSE schools were required to apply though their school to the CBSE seeking approval and admission in classes IX to XII, based on the equivalency. In case of the board’s name not appearing in the list, schools can provisionally admit the student and send request to CBSE for confirmation.

As per a statement from CBSE, many families are shifting to India from various countries post the covid pandemic due to various reasons. This has resulted in an increased number of approval requests from students seeking admission in CBSE schools. To alleviate the problems faced by such students and their families, the board took this decision to provide admission without prior approval.
