GISA- The First Worldwide Representative Body for Independent Education Sector Launched

The first worldwide representative body for the K-12 independent education sector – the Global Independent Schools Association (GISA)- was launched by UAE education entrepreneur Sunny Varkey. The purpose of this body is to help improve education across the world by greater knowledge sharing between the independent sector and governments.

Coordinating, representing, and giving a voice to the global K-12 independent education sector being its aim, this global association seeks to fill a ‘representation void’ of the sector that educates 350 million children around the world. It strives to become the ‘go to’ voice for the independent education sector by providing it a forum to share its vast body of knowledge and expertise within, and will act as a resource for the governments and institutions across the world. It will work with the policymakers and governments across the globe towards enhancing the standards in schools of every background, public or private.

As per Sunny Varkey, GISA members will be as diverse as the communities they serve, and will contribute frontline experiences of educating children across all possible income scale, culture and border. They will be working with governments in order to help them meet their educational and economic goals.

This is the first time that many leading names in global K-12 independent education sector have come together to form this new association. GISA has invited members to join them from across the world, including single classroom private school in a low-income country, a school run by charity, or a school operating within a multinational chain.
