Madras HC Judge suggests inclusion of IPC and MV Act in school curriculum


Madras high court Judge R Tharani has recently suggested that the Indian Penal Code and Motor Vehicles Act should be included in school curriculum.

According to sources, in a function organised at the Madurai bench to bid farewell to Justice Tharani , the justice said that the public at large are ignorant of the country’s law, and therefore at least the IPC, Evidence Act and MV Act should be included in the school curriculum for creating awareness.

Expressing her concern regarding children riding two-wheelers, she urged the Chief Justice  of Madras High Court, Sanjay Vijaykumar Gangapurwala to utilize the services of law officers, advocates and legal staff to educate school students on road safety rules and Motor Vehicle Act in the state.

It will be important to mention that Justice Tharani enrolled as an advocate in 1986 and started her practice at Sivagangai. She joined judicial service in 1991 and was elevated as an additional judge at the Madras High Court in 2017.
