The Haryana govt has declared an expansion of the yoga programme, which will merge it into the Grade 6 curriculum in schools during 2026–27. Later, the government will extend the programme to all children from Grade 3 to 9.

The first step aims to encourage holistic wellness and yoga from an early age while promoting student engagement in integrated yoga education, according to Asian News International. The government declared this during the International Day of Yoga.
The state will offer specialised coaching in yoga to Diploma in Physical Education teachers, all Physical Training Instructors, selected Primary Teachers and Post Graduate Teachers to support the programme's implementation. This coaching will fortify the capability of schools to provide quality yoga training.
Nayab Singh Saini, CM of Haryana, reported yoga as one of the country's major cultural gifts to humanity, provided by India's sages for the well-being of the globe. He also mentioned that yoga has developed from an ancient Indian tradition into a world trend for more than thousands of years.
Yoga is a form of physical exercise and a whole way of life that fosters harmony between the mind, soul, body, and society, according to the CM. He mentioned this on International Yoga Day during a yoga practice event held at Baba Bhuman Shah Dham in Sirsa.
