Andhra Pradesh will celebrate Teachers’ Day differently this year, with its School Education Department conducting week-long Edu Fest 2022 in schools. This is being planned in the 60 th year since Teachers’ Day was first celebrated on September 5, 1962, marking the birth anniversary of former President and scholar Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan.
Besides the State Education department officials and teachers, NGOs, Student Associations, Parent’s committees, noted philanthropists and retired teachers are involved in conducting the fest. The week-long festivities will begin with National Sports Day celebration on August 29. On the second day, student clubs would be formed or strengthened in schools, with teachers as mentors. These clubs would be related to topics of sports, culture, social service, health, and yoga. The next day’s events involve discussion on school safety guidelines at each school. On September 1, meetings of parent committees, NGOs, alumni and retired teachers would be held, and local public representatives would be involved, highlighting various schemes for betterment of schools. Next day’s plan include health checks for students and teachers, as well as career guidance support. On September 3, various competitions on the Teachers’ Day theme would be conducted for students and teachers. Sports and games are planned on September 4, and learning outcomes of students would be displayed - both class and subject-wise.
Finally, on Teachers Day, September 5, students would honour their teachers, and best Teacher awardees and retired teachers would be felicitated. There would be cultural programmes and prize distribution for various competitions. Edu Fest 2022 would culminate with ‘Upadhyaya Deevenalu’ (teachers’ blessings) to students.
School Education Commissioner, along with Regional Directors and District Education Officers will visit the schools for effective implementation of the events.
