The CBSE on Friday (01.08.2025) fulfilled surprise inspections at 15 schools throughout 7 states and Union Territories to find out violations like non-attending students, officials stated. CBSE teams visited the schools in Chandigarh, Delhi, Jharkhand, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, West Bengal, and Uttar Pradesh. Each of the 15 teams included a Board officer and a principal from an affiliated school.
The Board executed the inspections simultaneously within a short time window to preserve the element of surprise and to gather accurate information about the functioning and operations of the schools, a senior official explained. He added that the primary objective was to ensure compliance with the Board’s bylaws, verify that schools were not enrolling non-attending students, and confirm that academic and physical infrastructure standards were being maintained.
“CBSE will take necessary action after reviewing the inspection committee’s reports. The Board remains committed to upholding educational standards and will continue enforcing strict measures against any violations,” the official said. Many students preparing for engineering and medical entrance exams enrol in dummy schools so they can focus entirely on competitive exam coaching. These students often skip classes and only appear for board exams.
Some also join dummy schools to benefit from state-specific quotas in medical and engineering colleges. For instance, candidates completing senior secondary education in Delhi qualify for the Delhi state quota, making dummy school enrolments in the capital particularly attractive.
